Meet Joseph Iocono, MD, MBA, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Iocono is a pediatric surgeon at Akron Children’s. He’s been practicing since 2003 and with Akron Children’s since 2018. A graduate of Boston College and Sydney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, he completed a surgery residency and a fetal wound healing fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Pennsylvania. Dr. Iocono has a special interest in surgery education, minimally invasive surgery, neonatal congenital anomalies, trauma, oncology, supply chain economics and child advocacy. He provides outpatient and emergent evaluations, as well as operative treatment of pediatric general surgery conditions for infants, children and young adults. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and pediatric surgery. He’s a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, among several other professional organizations. He’s authored numerous abstracts, publications, books and book chapters, as well as presented on a variety of medical topics. Additionally, he’s a professor of surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
