Meet John Polousky, MD
Dr. John Polousky is the lead team orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Polousky brings more than 20 years of sports medicine experience to Akron. He has recently moved to Akron to serve as the Division Director of Orthopedic Sports medicine. Dr. Polousky completed his orthopedic residency at the Cleveland Clinic, a one-year fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and a 6-month fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Colorado. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and additional board certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He has served as a team physician for over 20 years including Division 1 athletics at for the CU Buffs football team and the University of Denver Pioneers Hockey team. Dr. Polousky was himself a scholarship collegiate athlete, playing offensive center for the Colorado State Rams, in the early ‘90’s.
Dr. Polousky brings his experience and expertise in sports medicine from Texas, where he was the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Surgical Director of Sports Medicine at the Children’s Health Andrews Institute in Plano Texas. In his leadership role, Dr. Polousky planned and supervised the construction of a $10 million, state-of-the-art facility to provide world-class sports medicine services to the high school and college athletes of the region. This 100,000 square foot facility included clinical space, MRI, physical therapy, sports performance training and a surgery center. The center served athletes from the entire state of Texas and from around the country.
Dr. Polousky has performed thousands of arthroscopic surgical procedures during his career, including ACL, complex shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle procedures. He was one of a small group of orthopedic surgeons selected to serve on the ACL Clinical Practice Guideline Committee, which was commissioned by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons to write national guidelines on the care of patients with ACL injuries. Dr. Polousky has held leadership roles in numerous national orthopedic organizations and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed abstracts and scientific articles.
