Quick Care Online® Virtual Visits

From the comfort of home or on-the-go, Quick Care Online® is a convenient and secure way to connect with one of our pediatric health care providers through secure video visits for many non-emergent minor illnesses and common health issues. Quick Care Online® is available to anyone under age 21 in Ohio. Your child does not have to be an Akron Children’s patient to use this service.

As of 9/19/23, Quick Care Online® is available through MyChart, but you are not required to have an Akron Children’s MyChart account to get a virtual visit.

Quick Care Online® is available:

  • To anyone under age 21 in Ohio
  • 7 a.m.-9 p.m., 7 days a week, 365 days a year
  • Using an Android or Apple mobile phone or tablet or a computer with video capability
  • Through MyChart, but you are not required to have a MyChart account to use it
     

Through Quick Care Online®, Akron Children's pediatric providers can diagnose, recommend treatment and prescribe medication, if medically necessary, for patients under age 21 in Ohio at the time of the visit for many common illnesses, including:

  • Allergies -  If your child has ear pain, please schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Cold and Flu -  If your child has ear pain, please schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Cough - If any breathing difficulty, wheezing, please schedule in-person appointment.
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever -  If your child has ear pain, 3 or more days of fever, please schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Insect Bite - If any breathing difficulty, please schedule in-person appointment.
  • Nausea
  • Pink Eye - If your child is under the age of 2 or has ear pain, please schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Rash
  • Sinus - If your child has ear pain, please schedule an in-person appointment.
  • Sore Throat - Strep diagnosis will require further testing.

If during your visit, the provider determines an in-person medical exam or emergency care is needed to treat your condition, they will refer you to the appropriate medical facility.

Quick Care Online® is available using any compatible mobile phone, tablet or computer with video capability. There are four ways to access Quick Care Online®:

Quick Care Online® accepts most health insurance plans in Ohio with the option to submit your plan details. If you use your health insurance, you will not pay anything at the time of the visit, but you will be billed after the visit consistent with your benefit plan.

At the time a visit is requested, you can enter your medical insurance information or elect self-pay. If health insurance option is selected, you will not pay anything at the time of the visit, but you will be billed after the visit consistent with your benefit plan. Regardless of the option you choose, you will be charged one fee per visit, regardless of the length of the visit.

After requesting a visit, you will be placed into the virtual waiting room until the next available provider answers. A provider will be notified of your arrival and will connect to you in the order your visit was received. Wait times may vary during peak times.

Your child must be present during the video visit. However, the level of child involvement will be at the discretion of the provider. In all cases, the provider will speak directly with the parent or guardian.

Patient should present for a telehealth appointment the same as for an in-person appointment. This includes:

  • Dressing patient modestly
  • Choosing a private and quiet place with plenty of light and limiting background noise
  • Occupying younger kids with a small toy or book to help put them at ease
  • If the appointment is for a minor, then an adult must also be present
  • For the safety of all, please do not initiate your virtual visit when driving

Depending on the nature of the appointment, here are some things you may be asked to prepare for patient beforehand.

  • List of current medications
  • Medical history
  • Symptoms, questions, concerns to discuss
  • Pharmacy contact information
  • Measurements like weight and temperature

Yes, all Quick Care Online® providers can prescribe short-term medication for a wide range of conditions when medically appropriate. Some diagnoses may require additional in-person testing. Our providers do not prescribe substances controlled by the DEA, drugs that are nontherapeutic and/or certain other drugs which may be harmful because of their potential abuse.

No. Quick Care Online® should be used when you need immediate care for minor health issues. It is an affordable, convenient, secure alternative for minor illnesses that don’t require higher levels of care such as urgent care and ER visits. Some diagnoses may require additional in-person testing.

Yes. If you have an Akron Children’s primary care provider, a summary of the visit will be included in your child’s medical record. You have access to your electronic medical record at any time by logging into your MyChart account. If the provider is not on Epic, a visit summary can be requested.

You will be notified via text, email or MyChart app notification when the provider is ready to see you. If you miss your visit, you will be returned to the end of the queue. If you miss three attempts from the provider, your visit will be canceled.

If you request a Quick Care Online visit outside of service hours, a message will appear that indicates video visits are currently unavailable.
Quick Care Online is staffed by Akron Children’s providers.
A Quick Care Online visit can be scheduled without an account. Patients must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to have a video visit.

Yes. Like any medical appointment, you pay for the visit regardless of the provider’s recommendation.
Yes. Like any medical appointment, payment is required at the time of the visit regardless of diagnosis. If additional in-person testing is required, the provider will recommend that you follow up with your primary care provider or specialist and provide any necessary documentation in your visit summary.
Akron Children’s cannot troubleshoot customer problems with Wi-Fi, cellular or network connection issues. For issues logging in to MyChart please contact the MyChart helpdesk at 330-543-4400 and select option 1.
