Message from Rebecca D. Considine
Only 5% of our nation’s medical research spending goes to improving children’s health. Akron Children’s now has one of the few pediatric research institutes in the nation. The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute was established to embody the spirit of discovery and innovation within Akron Children’s.
Over the hospital’s long history, research has been the engine driving improved patient care and meeting family needs in times of crises.
The institute taps the curiosity of our renowned physicians and skilled, motivated nurses to stimulate innovative breakthroughs in pediatric healthcare.
Akron Children’s also offers parents many opportunities to place their children, from infants to adolescents, in clinical studies of new medicines and technologies.
As a result, Akron Children's patients frequently benefit from treatments well before they become available nationwide.
As a teaching hospital affiliated with the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Akron Children's offers outstanding learning and research opportunities for students and residents. I’m especially proud of the Summer Pediatric Research Scholars program for college students who show an interest in pursuing healthcare careers.
By championing imaginative research and stimulating innovation, Akron Children’s represents a formidable force to meet the challenges of overcoming the illnesses and conditions afflicting our nation’s most cherished generation.
