Pediatric Endocrinology Elective
We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in endocrinology to 4th year medical students.
Objectives
- Learn basic concepts in the diagnosis and management of common pediatric endocrine disorders
- Become familiar with diabetes medications and basic diabetes management
Description
- Participate in daily outpatient clinic, including evaluation of patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, short stature, puberty and other general endocrine problems
- Attend inpatient endocrine rounds with the on-call attending.
- Learn to develop a relevant pediatric endocrinology differential diagnosis
- Observe initial diabetes education session and an insulin pump start or upgrade
- Typical daily schedule: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday)
- Night call/special requirements: There is no night call or weekend requirement. If you are on this rotation during the week of diabetes camp, you will be expected to participate in diabetes camp. There may be weekend or overnight expectations during that week only.
