Akron Children's to open Urgent Care; Ortho, Sports Injury Walk-in Clinic in Montrose
10-17-2024 (Akron, Ohio)
Akron Children’s new Urgent Care and Orthopedic and Sports Injury Walk-in Clinic, Montrose, is set to open Tuesday, Oct. 22, a quick and convenient option for families in surrounding communities who have infants to young adults in need of acute care for an illness or injury.
The center will include a walk-in clinic for pediatric orthopedic and sports injuries.
The center, formerly located at 4125 Medina Rd., is moving east to 4118 Medina Rd. (in the former location of Golf Galaxy) and will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week except holidays.
The public is invited to an open house on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring trick-or-treat stations as families tour the facility and meet staff. Costumes are encouraged.
“Urgent Care is the perfect option when your child has strep throat, an ear infection, pink eye, a rash, and many more of those concerning but not life-threatening situations,” said Dr. Alicia Manly, medical director. “And at Akron Children’s, we specialize in kids – how to talk to them in age-appropriate language, how to keep them calm during an exam, and how to turn a broken bone and getting a cast into a good experience.”
The walk-in orthopedic and sports injury clinic should be especially convenient for the region’s young athletes. The center will have on-site X-ray, splinting and casting.
The hours for the walk-in ortho and sports injury clinic are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
“We can treat college athletes and any young adult with a sports injury through age 25,” said Dr. Manly. “We can do those sports physicals needed for middle and high school team participation.”
