Akron Children’s Hospital to provide athletic training

to Campbell Memorial High School

07-15-2021 (Mahoning Valley, Ohio )

Akron Children’s Sports Medicine department will soon provide the expertise of its athletic trainers to student athletes in Campbell City Schools.

Effective Aug. 1, certified athletic trainer Derek Gustovich will work part time with students at Campbell Memorial High School in Campbell. He will cover home/away varsity football and home soccer, home basketball and home track events and be available for injury checks for other sports.

“Our certified athletic trainers are an important part of the care team that includes coaches, parents and physicians,” said Joseph Congeni, M.D., medical director of Akron Children’s Sports Medicine. “From injury prevention to customized rehabilitation programs, athletic trainers are dedicated to helping young athletes stay in the game.”

As part of the contract, Campbell Memorial student athletes and parents will have access to the free Healthy Roster app. The HIPAA-compliant and secure mobile injury documentation tool with live chat and video features allows Akron Children’s athletic trainers to streamline injury tracking and an athlete’s return-to-play status. If an injury occurs when the athletic trainer is not at the school, the athlete or parent can contact the trainer through the app.

Campbell Memorial joins about two dozen other Northeastern Ohio high schools that contract with Akron Children’s for athletic training services.
