What Can Cause Itching "Down There"?

Print Page

What if I'm Itchy "Down There"?

Lots of stuff can irritate the vaginal area — from bubble baths to tight underwear or a wet bathing suit. If you have itching or other irritation, try to find and deal with the reason for it. Don't use perfumed soaps or body washes, and avoid tight-fitting stuff, like underwear and tights. And take off your wet bathing suit when you're done swimming.

Sometimes soap is irritating, so it's fine to wash the vaginal area with only warm water. It also can be soothing to sit in a bath of warm water. No bubbles, please! Also, be sure to tell a parent about your itchy problem. They might be able to give you some ointment that can ease the itch. And if the itchiness won't go away, it's time to visit your doctor.
