Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley recently welcomed 17 community leaders to get an exclusive look at the day-t0-day operations of the hospital. Akron Children’s Up Close Mahoning Valley attendees got the chance to see a variety of different service lines including surgery, orthopedics and behavioral health.
The event kicked off with a welcome and overview of the growth and services at Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley. The visitors then, depending on the department they were assigned to, went on rounds, attended patient visits and even observed surgeries. The program wrapped up with a discussion of the impact the program had on each of the individuals.
The event clearly had a lasting impact on each of the participants. “The sole objective of the providers here is helping those families who come through those doors,” said Crissi Jenkins, with the Youngstown Foundation. Ms. Jenkins visited the emergency department and went on to say, “The level of passion they bring to those patients is outstanding.”
And that exposure also brought home the need to support the hospital. Gus Giannios, owner of Giannios Candy Co. Inc., said, “This is a great hospital so we all have to support it.”
Thank you to everyone who attended Children’s Up Close at Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley and the physicians and medical staff who welcomed our visitors.
