Akron Children’s offers on-demand and by-appointment virtual visits.
Some of your child’s appointments – including well visits – need to take place in your provider’s office. But Akron Children’s offers a growing number of virtual visits for minor illnesses, follow-up care and some specialty appointments.
“A virtual visit is a convenient, safe and effective way to access care at Akron Children’s,” said Sarah Rush, MD, pediatric hematologist-oncologist, vice president of medical informatics and Marci M. Matthews Endowed Chair in Telehealth at Akron Children’s. “Virtual visits give families and patients more flexibility. They may not have to coordinate time off from school and work, find a babysitter for your other kids or arrange for transportation. Patients get the same, expert care from Akron Children’s providers in the comfort of their own home or when they’re on the go.”
Akron Children’s offers two types of virtual visits: on-demand care through Quick Care Online® and scheduled visits through MyChart.
Get care now with Quick Care Online
Quick Care Online enables you to see an Akron Children’s provider 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Hours are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. daily, and no appointment is required. All you need is an internet-enabled smartphone, tablet or computer with a webcam and speakerphone.
Quick Care Online is a great option if your child has:
- Allergies
- Cold and flu
- Cough
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Insect bite
- Nausea
- Pink eye
- Rash
- Sinus
- Sore throat
Quick Care Online is available to anyone ages 6 months up to 21 years in Ohio for minor illness; you don’t have to be a current Akron Children’s patient. The service costs less than an in-office visit, and most major insurance plans are accepted. A self-pay option by credit or debit card is also available.

Dr. Sarah Rush
“Quick Care Online is convenient for patients with minor illness and families who otherwise would have to travel to an Akron Children’s Urgent Care or Quick Care facility,” Dr. Rush said. “We want to meet families where they are, and many are comfortable using this online option when their child needs care for a minor illness.”
Schedule a virtual visit through MyChart
Virtual visits are also available through MyChart. They can be scheduled with your Akron Children’s Pediatrics provider, as well as some specialists, during typical business hours. Your provider will work with you to arrange a phone or video visit, based on your child’s health care needs. Schedule online using your MyChart account or by calling 330-543-2778.
“MyChart virtual visits are ideal for medical conditions that require regular check-ins or preparation for surgery,” Dr. Rush explained. “Medical specialists utilize telehealth for their patients including Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Speech Therapy. With virtual visits, patients and families experience the same high-quality care from the privacy of home.”
Depending on the type of appointment, you may be asked to provide this information for the MyChart virtual visit:
- Your child’s health history and current medicines.
- Symptoms, questions or concerns you want to discuss with your child’s provider.
- Pharmacy contact information.
- Measurements like your child’s weight and temperature.
Resources to help with MyChart virtual visits are available on the Akron Children’s website.
Virtual visits are here to stay
“Akron Children’s ramped up virtual visit capabilities when COVID-19 hit in 2020, and we haven’t looked back,” Dr. Rush shared. “We’ve worked hard to make virtual visits efficient, while ensuring we deliver the compassionate care we’re known for. Depending on their child’s needs, families appreciate the option to receive care in person or virtually.”
