Akron Children’s Paula Wisniewski, BSN, RN, CPEN, has received the prestigious Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Excellence in Nurse Practice Award. This recognition is a testament to Paula’s extraordinary dedication, expertise and commitment to the field of nursing.
Paula has established herself as an indispensable resource in her roles as trauma nurse leader, primary preceptor and relief charge nurse in the emergency room (ER). Her certification as a Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) underscores her expertise to ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of care.
As a dedicated preceptor, Paula adjusts her teaching style to cater to the needs of her orientees, providing them with invaluable tips and resources. Her involvement in departmental and house-wide councils, as well as various work groups, illustrates her commitment to improving care quality across the board. She is also committed to continuous learning – attending emergency trauma conferences, annual pediatric conferences as well as other educational activities to enhance her expertise.
Beyond patient care, Paula actively participates in numerous councils and committees aimed at advancing nursing practice.

Paula’s dedication extends beyond the hospital walls. She participates in events sponsored by Akron Children’s, demonstrating her commitment to the community. She stays informed about legislation affecting nursing practice and is actively involved in the Emergency Nurses Association, ensuring she remains current with professional standards and developments.
“She truly is a role model for nurses. She looks for solutions to challenges and encourages others to do the same,” said Kristy. “She follows policies and procedures without work arounds and gives 1000% to every aspect of nursing so that she can provide the best care to her patients as well as be a resource to her peers.”
