Imagine you’re a new parent. Your son, just a few days old, goes to his first doctor’s visit. As the doctor examines your newborn, a look of concern crosses over her face, and she tells you that your baby will need a follow-up appointment to have an ultrasound of his spine. At that moment, your nerves take over and you can’t really relax until you get those ultrasound results back.
Imagine the relief you feel when the ultrasound technician tells you that in just a few hours, your test results will be at your fingertips through MyChart.
Results available from tests performed outside Akron Children’s
Patient families also are able to receive test results in MyChart from labs and other tests performed outside of Akron Children’s. This includes test results that are stored as PDFs in your child’s medical record, including audiology evaluations, sleep studies, radiology reports and echocardiograms.
How to find your child’s test results:
- Go to mychart.akronchildrens.org and log in.
- Then, select the patient’s name in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click “Test Results” in the main menu.
- Click the test result you wish to review. The Test Results Detail page will appear, which can be printed for your convenience.
MyChart’s Test Results Detail page provides your child’s test results (past and present) and, when available, a normal range for that particular test. Any comments or additional notes by the provider can be seen on this page, as well. If you wish to learn more about the test, you can click on the “Want More Information” link to the right of results.
If the test was performed outside of Akron Children’s, under “Images,” click the purple link, which shows the date and time the result was scanned into MyChart, to pull up a scanned copy of your child’s test results.
It’s important to note because test results are automatically released as soon as they become available, families may be seeing the results before their providers. In this case, you may need to check back frequently for updates from your provider.
Sensitive information, such as tumor indicators or genetic results, is delayed to give the provider a chance to review it first. Once results are available in MyChart, families will receive an email notification.
In addition, some results, such as those for pregnancy, drug abuse and sexually transmitted diseases, are blocked from MyChart for privacy purposes. Patients will receive those results by phone.
Once you’ve reviewed your results, if you have further questions, you can message your doctor securely through MyChart.
