Meet Dr. Destiny Jamison, pictured with her fiance. She’s Akron Children’s newest pediatrician at our pediatric primary care location in Warren.
Destiny Jamison, DO, is no stranger to sacrifice and hardship. Raised in a single parent household in inner-city Akron, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school and become a doctor, all while waitressing at Bob Evans and helping to raise her niece. She knows firsthand what it’s like to struggle, and the hard work it takes to overcome obstacles and defy the odds.
Today, as Akron Children’s newest pediatrician at our pediatric primary care location in Warren, Dr. Jamison’s grit and determination is evident when diagnosing and treating kids and teens with minor to acute medical conditions. She goes the extra mile to provide the very best care possible, while advocating for kids and encouraging them to rise to their potential — no matter their zip code. After all, Dr. Jamison views her background as an asset, rather than a setback, in making a positive impact on kids in underserved communities.
Why did you choose to come to Akron Children’s?
I came to Akron Children’s because as someone from inner-city Akron and a graduate of Akron Public Schools, it was always my dream to return to serve my community by taking care of children from similar backgrounds as my own.
Describe your role at Akron Children’s and what you hope to accomplish.
I am a general pediatrician at Akron Children’s Pediatrics, Warren. I hope to provide excellent care to children with a special interest in taking care of underserved communities.
What is your area of expertise and why did you choose it?
I chose to be a pediatrician because as a teenager I grew up taking care of my niece. It taught me how much of an impact one can make by taking care of children and encouraging them to rise to their potential, despite where they come from.

What do you like most about being a provider?
My favorite part about being a pediatrician is taking care of babies and watching them grow, while supporting their parents. I also enjoy caring and advocating for teenagers.
What impression do you hope to leave with your patients each day?
I hope patients feel I am down to earth, approachable and nonjudgmental. I want to leave the impression that I truly care about them and work very hard to provide the very best care possible.
What’s the best part of your day?
My favorite part is making my patients laugh!
What unique or different skills do you have that help you practice medicine?
I think my background makes me unique. I was raised by a single, teen mom who worked multiple jobs to support us. I am also biracial — African American and Caucasian — was the first in my family to graduate from high school and the only doctor. I know what it is like to struggle and work to overcome obstacles.
How do you deal with the emotional impact of being a provider?
I lean on lots of prayer and support from my family.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Akron, specifically in Kenmore.
Dr. Jamison celebrates graduating medical school with family and friends.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a comedian.
What is your greatest personal accomplishment?
I’m most proud of helping to raise my niece and watching her grow up.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would like to visit France and Jamaica one day.
What’s your favorite quote?

What are your favorite podcasts, books, movies or TV shows?
I love anything that involves comedy and romance, with some life lessons sprinkled in there.

I was a waitress at Bob Evans.
