It’s been an exciting couple of weeks since this little man has been on the move. I’m amazed at how well he crawls around. I sometimes forget he can get around so easily. I’ll be in another room, come out and, boom, there he is.
Jordan has become more confident in his new skills, pulling himself up on his knees to check out what’s on the coffee table or attempting to position himself on our laps. He also enjoys finding our dog Sasha’s bone to give to her. They really appreciate each other’s company these days.
We attended our vacation bible school entitled Wipe Out again this year. Randy and I are the leaders of the 4th and 5th graders with the theme of Slime City. Our area is set up with about 17 stations of a water obstacle course. You don’t leave dry that’s for sure.
We averaged about 100 kids in our group each night. Jordan joined our group, but he hung out with one of our friends who was one of the nurses for the week. I had the privilege of speaking to the kids for the first time on the first night.
My job was to talk to the kids about “God is with you through the wipeout.” I chose this one because it’s such a passion of ours from what we’ve experienced through the past couple of years. I was able to share briefly about our experience with Jordan and how God has never left us alone through our triumphs and struggles. He has given us comfort when we’ve felt pain, He’s given us joy as we celebrate our victories, and sent us loving friends and family when we needed a hug.
I was amazed at the attentiveness of these kiddos. When we would carry Jordan around on our breaks, he’d eat up giving each of them five and they’d ask, “Is this the little boy who had surgery on his back?”
He’s become, as Randy calls him, a ham bone. He loves people and isn’t shy about giving a grin to bring more smiling faces to those around us.
Something that I’ve come to take advantage of is sharing Jordan’s story, well our family’s story with others. It seems to come up in a lot of the conversations I have with both friends and strangers. I love getting to share how God has blessed us with such an amazing, fun child.
It’s not always easy when I think about the struggles we’ve faced or the challenges we have ahead. In fact if I really have time to think or have a day that we get a report that gives us a reality check, I’ll admit this stinks. But then I think about how we get so excited about the little victories such as rolling over; getting into a four-point stance without falling over; taking a small crawl one creep, then 7, then 15, then down the hall; and going as far as seeing him have a small stream while changing his diaper. Sorry, but it’s a celebration in our house.
God knew what he was doing when he created this little man for His purpose. He’s got to have some amazing plans and we can’t wait to see what else is in store.
