Wade was born with underdeveloped features on the left side of his skull, including his ear, eye, and jaw and has overcome a number of hurdles to get to this finish line.

4. In May, we recognized Bereaved Mother’s Day.
Bereaved Mother’s Day was created to honor mothers who have lost a child, as well as recognize women who cannot be a mother due to infertility or other health reasons.
5. After 18 days in the NICU, triplets Parker, Robin and Sylvie were headed home to start their lives with their dads in Michigan.
Surrogate Maureen Farris of Akron was put in touch with Kevin O’Neill and Eric Portenga by a mutual friend.
6. The sounds of Willie Nelson, the therapy mini horse from Victory Gallop, filled the halls in July as he made his first visit to the hospital since March 2020.

7. There’s more than a bit of spooky fun at Akron Children’s around Halloween! We asked you to help us pick the best staff costumes.
Tropical vacation? The staff of our 7100 patient unit helped patients dream of distant shores!
8. In what has become a beloved tradition, the superhero window washers from American National Skyline, Inc. returned to Akron Children’s in September to entertain patients and families on our Akron campus.
Batman was fighting “grime” and making sure the windows were sparkling clean!
9. In October, Newsweek ranked Akron Children’s 16th among pediatric hospitals in its 2022 list of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals.
We were honored to be recognized as one of the top pediatric hospitals, a ranking that reflects the compassion, expertise and quality of care our health care teams provide patients and their families every day.
10. In February, we reminded families that dressing a child in layers – not a bulky coat – is the best way to keep them safe and warm in their car seat.
