Julie Dillard, MD, MSc, has joined Akron Children’s as the director of research, Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine.
In this role, she will work with the chair of Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine and the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute to support research that impacts the care of newborns and their families at Akron Children’s.
“Dr. Dillard’s work will be critical in developing an academic department that contributes to the knowledge about newborn care at Akron Children’s,” said Dr. Marya Strand, chair, Department of Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine.
She will also work closely with the chief academic officer and the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute to build and lead a research team within the Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine department.
In addition to her research duties, Dr. Dillard, a neonatologist, see patients in our neonatal intensive care units at Akron Children’s and St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Before coming to Akron Children’s, Dr. Dillard served as a neonatologist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where she also served as an assistant professor of pediatrics. She previously served as a pediatrician for the United States Air Force.
Dr. Dillard earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, completed her pediatrics residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and completed her neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She earned her Master of Medical Science degree from The Ohio State University.
