Akron Children’s is expanding its health care services in the Montrose area with the relocation of its urgent care to a new, state-of-the-art facility and the launch of a walk-in orthopedic and sports injury clinic.
Beginning at noon on October 22, urgent care will be located in the former Golf Galaxy building at 4118 Medina Rd. The new location offers increased visibility and enhanced accessibility for families in the Montrose community and surrounding areas. The public is invited to tour the new facility at a trick-or-treat-themed open house on October 19 from 10 a.m.-noon.
In addition to providing top-notch urgent care for children and adolescents, the location will feature a dedicated walk-in orthopedic and sports injury clinic. This clinic will offer convenient, expert care for young athletes experiencing sprains, strains, fractures and other common sports-related injuries.
“We’re thrilled to bring this expanded level of care to the Montrose community,” said Peggy Kuhar, nursing director of Access and Navigation “By combining urgent care with specialized orthopedic services, we’re able to provide comprehensive care for children and teens in one convenient location.”
This service is designed to complement Akron Children’s existing Sports Health program, which offers a full range of specialized orthopedic care for young athletes.
“Our goal is to be the first choice for families seeking orthopedic care for their children,” said Candace Zalick, administrative director of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Health at Akron Children’s. “By offering a walk-in clinic, we’re making it easier for families to get the care they need when they need it.”
The walk-in clinic is designed to treat sudden injuries (fractures/broken bones, dislocations, sudden knee pain, sprains and strains, joint pain or swelling and simple lacerations), not chronic conditions.
“Akron Children’s is committed to providing exceptional pediatric care to the communities it serves,” said Peggy. “The new Montrose location and walk-in sports injury clinic are just two examples of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to expand access to high-quality health care for children, teens and young adults until the age of 26.”
The walk-in sports injury clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-noon.
Urgent Care is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas day. The Center will offer limited hours on other holidays.
