Sarah Brown grew up in Massillon, Ohio and prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, traveled across the United States with her fiancé working in various hospital systems as part of a travel nurse program. Living coast to coast allowed Sarah to experience the diversity of healthcare while strengthening her love for medicine. Life brought her back to northeast Ohio and she knew that the next adventure would be caring for the community she was raised in.
Describe your role at Akron Children’s.
I am a pediatric endocrinology nurse practitioner. I assess, diagnose, and treat a multitude of conditions within the endocrine system. I work with patients and their families to better understand and control their diagnosis while ensuring they are heard and supported. I find it a privilege to be able to impact a child in their growing years by helping them best understand and control their diagnosis from a young age.
What directed you towards this field of medicine?
I found my passion for endocrinology as I was working through my clinical rotations and obtaining my master’s degree. The complexity of the endocrine system, along with the mathematics, pathways and thought processes it involves intrigued me.
I hope my patients leave with an increased understanding of their diagnosis and treatment plan options.
Who makes up your family, including pets and their names.
My family encompasses my fiancé Jacob, and our cat, Cali. I grew up with two loving parents and two younger brothers.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
To see the Northern Lights in Alaska.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
When I am not working, I enjoy playing tennis, going boating, trying new coffee spots with friends, staying active outdoors, and trying new restaurants with my fiancé.
