Stephanie Mullin’s career as a pediatric nurse and nurse practitioner has taken her to other children’s hospitals around the country, however at Akron Children’s, she is close to her hometown of Cleveland. Mullin joined Akron Children’s 10 years ago and was part of the original team that started the pediatric gastroenterology division with Reinaldo Garcia, MD. She is one of two pediatric nurse practitioners who see patients in Beachwood.
“My interest in pediatric gastroenterology originally developed while working as a gastroenterology nurse practitioner at Boston Children’s Hospital. After moving back to Cleveland, I was then fortunate to work alongside Dr. Garcia at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital before joining his team at Akron Children’s Hospital,” Mullin said.
She finds it most rewarding when she can make a difference by improving her patients’ quality of life and help them understand their condition and treatment.
“I can’t imagine having another job. I am so happy with my career choice as a pediatric gastroenterology nurse practitioner and genuinely enjoy what I do,” Mullin said. “Helping our patients navigate through challenging health issues is very rewarding.”
Growing up on Cleveland’s east side, Mullin is particularly grateful to be practicing in our Beachwood location.
“It’s wonderful to have that familiarity with the community,” she said. “It has been rewarding to be able to bring Akron Children’s family-centered culture and expertise to this welcoming area.”
Mullin met her husband Steve while working in Boston. They have two sons, ages 21 and 17. Her family also includes two dogs, Duke and Rigby. In her spare time, she enjoys playing pickle ball, hiking in the local metro parks and attending concerts.
