Every day at Akron Children’s, we strive to deliver compassionate care and create positive experiences for our patients and families. This month, we’re spotlighting Stacy Generalovich, DO, FAAP, a pediatrician at Akron Children’s Pediatrics, Boardman, who recently received the following feedback from a patient family:
“We love Dr. (Stacy Generalovich)! She’s been our daughter’s pediatrician since she was a few months old when we moved back to the area. When my husband was granted custody of his other daughter, she became a patient of Dr. G’s as well. Our girls love her! Dr. G is wonderful and remembers everything about our daughters and our family. She is great at explaining things to our children and helping them to understand when they are concerned about something. We are blessed to have her as a pediatrician, and Akron Children’s is lucky to have her on staff.”
How long have you worked at Akron Children’s, and what’s your role?
I have worked at Akron Children’s for 12 years as a general pediatrician at the Boardman location.
Reflecting on these experiences and the feedback you received from the families, how do you feel about it?
When I reflect on my experiences with the families I have taken care of through the years, one word comes to mind: privileged. I am privileged to be able to be a part of each of my patient’s lives and their story. For the family that acknowledged me, I would say to them that they have inspired me as a pediatrician, and I am honored that they have entrusted me with the care of their amazing, sweet daughters.
How do you help to address your patients’ concerns and make them feel comfortable with their care?
Hopefully, when I see a family for anything from routine well visits to a sick complaint, they feel I am listening to their concerns and that those concerns are being addressed by the right questions. Even with patients I have just met, making them comfortable with a smile and direct eye contact is what usually leads to a successful visit.
What does patient- and family-centered care mean to you? How do you strive to deliver that care?
Patient- and family-centered care is what drives me as a provider to keep practicing at a quality level. In keeping with that premise, I would say to the special family who trusted me with their daughter, the protocols we use to deliver patient-centered care created a trusting environment wherein a treatment plan was meaningfully developed. Once you see these results as a provider, you realize all the questionnaires and screenings we do daily impact many families.
What do you most enjoy about your work at Akron Children’s?
There are many facets of my job at Akron Children’s that I enjoy, from the friendships among co-workers to the ability to be a part of an organization that provides overall good care for the Mahoning Valley. Most of all, I enjoy my patients, who make each day fun and offer a perspective of gratitude for being their trusted physician.
