After fifteen years of service at Akron Children’s, Dr. Richard Hertle, director of pediatric ophthalmology, Dr. Boomer and Jill Burnstine Endowed Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmologist will be retiring.
Dr. Hertle came to Akron in 2010 to grow the Pediatric Ophthalmology service after six years as the chief of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and professor of ophthalmology and bioengineering at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Hertle has made an impact on many patient lives during his career, helping them live happy and healthy lives through strabismus or nystagmus surgeries, and forming bonds with his patients and patient families.
Longtime patient, Riley Osborn, had her last appointment with Dr. Hertle before his retirement. This was four years after her strabismus surgery, a procedure patients across the country and around the world sought medical care under Dr. Hertle.
