Marya Strand, MD, MS, formerly chief medical officer of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and a practicing neonatologist, joined Akron Children’s on July 31, as chair of the newly formed department of Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine. She is also the Thomas R. and Mary Lynn Crowley Endowed Chair in Neonatology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. This was made possible by a $5 million commitment from the Crowleys to give thanks for the care their daughter received as a premature infant.
Bringing the departments of Neonatology and Maternal Fetal Medicine together as one will advance evidence-based practice, while creating opportunities in education.
Dr. Strand received her medical degree and completed her pediatrics residency at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville. She completed a neonatology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and is board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine.
