With summer vacation just around the corner, many families are gearing up for their annual summer trips — from lakeside adventures to beachside fun.
The bags are packed, hotel reservations confirmed and the family pet is boarded. The only thing left to do is fill up the gas tank (or print the boarding passes), right? Wrong.
Packing your child’s medical record also should be on your family to-do list before you hit the road. Even when having fun in the sun, the unfortunate can happen.
MyChart offers your family the tools you require to manage your child’s health care anytime, anywhere — whether you’re traveling 2 hours away or 20.
Still not convinced? Akron Children’s offers 4 reasons MyChart is essential when traveling.
Your child’s medical chart is one login away
While vacationing out of state or visiting an urgent care outside of Akron Children’s, your child’s medical record is one login away. You have permanent access to important health information, such as your child’s health summary and history, current medications, allergies and immunization records.
You also can plan ahead and download all or part of your child’s health information so you can take it with you.
If you need proof of your children’s COVID-19 vaccinations and don’t have their CDC vaccine cards, you can quickly access their records in MyChart.
Share your child’s medical record with outside providers
If your child needs immediate medical care, MyChart’s Share Everywhere functionality allows you to grant temporary access to your child’s medical information to any provider taking care of her.
In minutes, the provider will see a subset of the same information you see when logging into MyChart, including allergies, current medications, immunizations, lab results, visit records and current health issues. In addition, the provider can write a note back to your child’s care team about care he provided.
That way, your child can be treated right away with the best care possible and quickly get back to more fun in the sun.
Message providers with non-urgent medical questions
Even on vacation, health concerns can pop up. You may have questions about pesky bug bites that swell, or whether your child can take Tylenol (for sudden fevers) or antihistamines (for seasonal allergy flare-ups) with her current medication.
With MyChart messaging, you can securely email your child’s physician day or night when it’s convenient for you with non-urgent medical concerns. You could even snap a picture of a bug bite or rash, for example, to send to your provider for advice.
No longer do you have to wait for open office hours or play phone tag to communicate with your child’s physician.
