Congratulations to 18 students who were recently awarded the Employee Foundation Council’s (EFC) prestigious Hagey Scholarship.
For this year, the EFC nearly doubled the number of scholarship awards, giving 18 recipients $1,800 each. The EFC also extended scholarship eligibility to college freshman and even some graduate students due to the impact COVID-19 had on the scholarship timeline.
Also new this year, the EFC moved to a virtual application process including electronic submission of transcripts and virtual interviews, allowing more students the chance to apply – including a student who interviewed from overseas.
The scholarships are named in honor of Grace Hagey, the hospital’s first Public Relations director who played an instrumental role in the creation of Children’s Employee Foundation. Throughout the applications and interviews, the students shared how they have grieved losses from COVID-19 while holding hope, and even joy, for present and future opportunities.
