While safety around water is always important, swimming and recreational fun in or near open water areas such as ponds, lakes and oceans pose different threats and challenges that can turn fun into injury or loss of life quickly. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in children aged 1–14 years in the U.S.
To help avoid accidents and injuries, make sure your kids – young and old – are aware of a few basic rules before taking to open water this summer.
