Driving past the Beeghly campus in the Mahoning Valley, it’s clear to see that big changes are happening and the new building is coming to life.
The first phase of this expansion will increase the size of the existing Building A on the Beeghly campus by more than 51,000 feet.
“The building’s shell will be closed up by mid to late November, when we will begin to work on the interior finish,” said Lisa Taafe, Clinical Administrative Director, Mahoning Valley. “This next wave of activity includes insulation, drywall, drywall finish, paint, flooring, casework acoustical ceilings, wall protection and accessories – which will surely keep us busy.”
As part of this $18.6 million project, 47 exam rooms will be added for pediatric specialty and primary care services. Additionally, sports rehabilitation will be offered as a new service in the building.
Relocating specialty services from the Boardman Medical Pavilion to Beeghly expands treatment offerings for patient families, along with improving their access to primary care.
Akron Children’s Board of Directors recently toured the Building A expansion project on the Beeghly campus. The building is scheduled to open in July 2017.
This improvement in primary care access includes a brand new parking lot that will be built along Market Street. There will also be three smaller parking sections along the north, west and south side of the new addition, totaling 171 new spots for patient use. Grading for the new parking lot and ambulance drive will be finished by the end of December.
The expansion also provides the hospital a unique opportunity to celebrate our connection to the Mahoning Valley. Plans are in place to highlight the area’s unique natural beauty in various elements of the interior design, including signage, photographs – and even the color scheme.
The Beeghly campus expansion, which broke ground on December 14, 2015, is part of Akron Children’s continued commitment to bring quality care closer to home for our patient families. From the hospital’s early days in 2008, when it became Mahoning Valley’s only children’s hospital until today, we’re continuing to build on that promise.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2017.
