It’s going to be wild and wonderful fall for 12-year-old Cooper Meshew. Cooper and his dad, Scott, are big hunting enthusiasts and Cooper has been granted a “wish trip” to head out west and hunt elk with famed outdoorsman Steve West.
Their hunt in Oregon will be filmed and televised as an episode of “Steve’s Outdoor Adventures” on the Outdoor Channel and later on the Sportsman Channel.
Cooper (pictured here with Dr. Kathy Mosher) has an extremely rare variation of the debilitating neurological disorder Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, said his mom, Heidi, who is also going on the trip.
CMT has especially affected Cooper’s ability to control his upper body, hands, face and eyesight.
Cooper will not only get to hunt alongside West in some of the most beautiful terrain in the country, but will be “treated like a rock star for a week at our private ranch and lodge,” said West.
It will be a special opportunity for Cooper and his parents, who know a thing or two about giving back. The family founded an event called Ohio Hunt for Hope to give local children with special needs the opportunity hunt deer each year.
Held in late fall at the Buckhaven Learning Center in Loudonville, Ohio, the event brings together the adaptive equipment, volunteers and medical personnel to give these kids an experience that would otherwise not be available to them.
