Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Identify and describe interdepartmental initiatives at Akron Children’s Hospital which have improved not only Emergency Department throughput, but have also demonstrated benefits for departments outside of the ED. 2. Identify and describe the benefits to patients, families and the medical team of matching acuity of a patient complaint with the appropriate level of care. 3. Recognize the value of the hard data captured through these initiatives, and how they can be used to identify opportunities for further optimization of patient throughput.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Navigating through the medical system to obtain the medial care needed can be a challenging and daunting process for patients and therefore health care organizations can help streamline the process for the patients they care and serve to result in efficient and appropriate patient care.
