Grand Rounds: Congenital Cytomegalovirus: Outcomes and Opportunities (CMV)

Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Explain the epidemiology of congenital cytomegalovirus in the United States, as well as identify high risk groups. 2. Summarize the behavioral changes that reduce the risk of CMV transmission which are especially important for childbearing people and their partners. 3. Improve their knowledge of common interventions and supports for children with congenital CMV and their families.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Congenital CMV can various neurodevelopmental delays and remains the leading viral cause of intrauterine fetal demise and pregnancy loss, leading non-genetic cause of childhood hearing loss, therefore early detection and proper screening for at risk patients is needed to get these patients to the appropriate specialists, interventions and support systems.
