Dani's Story
We got Dani at nine weeks old from Robinson Hollow Rescue in West Virginia. I never would have found them on my own, but one day I received a text from my daughter's college roommate. "Mrs. Merklin, you have to go look at this website." She had just adopted a puppy from them.
I looked at the website and there was a nine-week-old Maltese puppy. The shelter had already had her for a week, so she was probably separated from her mother and littermates way too young.
I thought what the heck, I can fill out an application, but they must get hundreds of them and I will never own this dog. Because I had used my daughter's roommate as a reference, my name shot to the top of the list and two days later we got the call. The two-pound Maltese pup was ours if we wanted her!
Fun facts:
- Loves fruits and veggies, including watermelon, apples, green beans and carrots.
- Gets excited when we say the names of our adult children as she thinks they're entering the house
- Her full name is Daenerys. She was a 2.2 lb puppy when we got her and we thought it would be funny to name a tiny pup after the fierce "Mother of Dragons" from the show Game of Thrones
- As a therapy animal, Dani has been petted with a stylus, had her hair braided, and been covered in felt balls!
